Freedom of Speech

As we know freedom of speech is vitual to democratic society. However, as individuals we often have to stop and consider if what we are saying is appropriate for the contexts. For instance, I'm sure we all wouldn't speak the way we do with our best friends, with our grandparents. Often we, as communicators, feel the need to self censor. Is this harmful? How can it be? For this week's blog response, in 150 words, please consider the implications that freedom and censorship have to composition. How does our ability to communicate openly, or not, affect the texts we author?
